Job Description

Biofabics is seeking a highly motivated and committed experienced researcher who wants to develop his/her research in an industrial environment and with a strong interest in design of tissue/organ models, bioreactors and biofabrication. In particular, the experienced researcher will be involved in the project “Fish-AI - Developing an Artificial Intestine for the sustainable farming of healthy fish”. The project intends to develop an intestine-on-chip device which will allow to study and optimize the nutrition of fish in aquaculture. This 4 year-long, 3 Million euro European project involves 5 other academic and industrial consortium partners, namely:

- Universita Degli Studi Di Milano (Italy) - Coordinator

- Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Limited (Israel)

- Universiteit Gent (Belgium)

- Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway)

- Skretting Aquaculture Research Centre AS (Norway)

You will be involved in:

· Research and development activities

· Coordinating and supporting administrative tasks for project management and project-related meetings

· Drafting briefing notes, reports, articles and research materials


The ideal candidate for this position:

· Has a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, biomaterials engineering or related field

· Is skilled in employing and developing technologies and techniques such as dynamic cell/tissue culture, development/processing of biocompatible gels, biomaterials and scaffolds as well as 3D printing/bioprinting

· Is able to drive collaborations across multiple organizations and carry out communication of research activities through presentations at informal and formal meetings, reports, research articles and conference presentations

· Has an excellent track record, demonstrated through meaningful research publications and/or relevant professional experience

· Is available for short travels to consortium meetings and/or conferences

· Is a reliable and effective worker

· Is self-motivated, can excel in both unsupervised solo projects and in tight teamwork contexts

· Has a growth mindset and learns quickly

· Is a creative and critical thinker


· Full-time contract with competitive salary, according to experience and expertise

· The position will be based at our Porto facilities, located at UPTEC, within University of Porto’s Asprela campus)
